The Future of the Nigerian Lawyer: Power Technology, and the Reinvention of the Profession

The commissioning of the Tayo Oyetibo Bar Centre marks a significant milestone for the NBA Ondo Branch and the Nigerian legal profession. In his lecture delivered at the occasion, Professor Olanrewaju Fagbohun, SAN, sounded a timely note: the profession stands at a moment of profound transformation, being reshaped by political accountability pressures, the rapid rise of artificial intelligence, and the globalisation of legal and economic systems.
Professor Fagbohun argued that navigating this shift demands reinvention. The future Nigerian lawyer must be a guardian of democratic accountability, a technologically empowered professional, and a globally aware practitioner. Only through this evolution, he concluded, can the profession sustain its historic role as a pillar of justice and national development.
